About Dick RobertsonCribbed from Richard J. Robertson's onetime website on Perceptual Control Theory. Born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, after high school the writer served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. The impact of the war, and the University of Chicago "Hutchins Plan"—which emphasized the inter-relatedness of all human knowledge and endeavor—led to an abiding interest in the course of our Civilization even while engaged in the specialized study of Human Development. After receiving the Ph.D. in 1960, he spent 5 years in research and psychological rehab positions and then professorship in psychology at Northeastern Illinois University from which he retired as Professor Emeritus in 1993. Author of writings in perceptual control theory psychology and psychotherapy, he continues active in writing, sailing and family activities with his wife of 53 years, Vivian Maki, and with four sons and their families, including nine grandchildren. |
